Glass bulb christmas ornament?

Hi, I usually make a glass bulb with paint in it every year for friends and family and i was wondering if anybody had different ideas on what to fill the inside with or outside or something.

Thanks!

you can get acrylic spheres that snap apart. these are easier to fill, and less likely to break if something hard rattles around and strikes the inside. I’ve seen them filled with artificial flies, plastic trout, etc for someone who likes to fish. I’ve seen them filled with dollhouse stuff or barbie shoes. Just pick something the recipient is interested in, and collect a bunch of stuff. For a coin collector, you could maybe put a coin of each denomination, from the current year, and fill the rest of the sphere with crumpled play bills. Your best bet is to use some kind of clear adhesive, or else to glue stuff on little pins to a slightly smaller foam ball, then cover the exposed area in crumpled tissue paper, etc, and snap on the clear part over the top

Have you tried marbelizing? You take 2-3 different colors of paint and swirl around inside the ornaments to make a marbled look. Is this what you do?

Glitter, crystal snow flakes, small crystal acrylic beads, pieces of tinsel garland, etc can be tucked inside an ornament. When hung on the tree, the lights kind of reflect off the fillings.

Small pieces of colored potpourri can be put inside. It won’t smell but it looks kind of pretty.

Another good idea is to fill the bulb – or ornament – with paper shreds / glitter / confetti in the colors of the recipient’s favorite sports team or school if they are a student. Need shredded paper in a specific color? All you need is a paper shredder and consrtuction or scrapbooking paper! You can crimp the paper with a paper crimper found at any craft store in the scrapbooking department for about $10.

There are a bazillion ways to "completely cover" or just to embellish glass bulb ornaments with polymer clay (air-dry clays could be used for some of them too). Many of them can be done on colored glass ball ornaments too.

If you want to check out some of them, look on these two pages at my site:
